Boat Quay
Then: In 1954, Boat Quay was the busiest port along the Singapore River, its waters choked by wooden bumboats unloading cargo into godowns and shophouses on shore.
Now: The shophouses still stand, but the bustling port activity is no more. Set against the skyline of modern Singapore, Boat Quay is now a lively nightlife district, its banks lined with pubs, bars and restaurants. As for the bumboats, they now take tourists on river cruises.
